You are a leaf on a mighty tree!

If you are just starting out with your family tree, or just trying to figure out where to begin, you might find some of these resources and website very helpful.

First start by filling out an individual worksheet for each family member:
  • Free Individual Worksheet - A free individual worksheet you can use to collect data on an individual. This form would be a great way to collent a person story from someone about an event that they remember.

    Next, fill out a family group sheet for an entire family unit starting with the dad and mom and their children:
  • Free Family Group sheet - A free family group sheet you can download and print to start building your family unit information.

    Finally, you can put it all together in a pedigree chart:
  • Free Pedigree Chart - A free pedigree chart you can download and print out to start collecting data.

  • Find A Grave - Find A Grave website allows people to create virtual online memorials for their loved one. It is a great resource for searching cemetaries from around the world and finding connections to our ancestors.

  • Family Search - A free online family tree website and resource search site.

  • Ancestry.com - A for profit online service for researching family history and resources.

  • OGSA - The Ostfriesen Genealogical Society of America is located in St. Paul, Minnesota and is the largest non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping members find their German family connections. They have a huge resource library.

  • German Gravesite and headstone search - This site is in German so you will need to translate it a bit to use the search feature, but once you search for a name (nachname) and then hit enter, click on a persons name to view their headstone.

  • Pomeranian Genealogy - Want to find out more about your family members from Pomerania? Click here to learn more about the the treaty of Westphalia and your "vorporman" heritage.

  • WikiTree Family Tree - A free online family tree website. Start making your family tree today for free.

  • Road Side Thoughts - A wealth of information on small towns and places throughout America and Canada.
